"L1CAM, a neural cell adhesion molecule which is involved in the dynamics of cell adhesion and in the generation of transmembrane signals at tyrosine kinase receptors. During brain development, L1CAM is critical in multiple processes, including neuronal migration, axonal growth and fasciculation, and synaptogenesis. In the mature brain, L1CAM plays a role in the dynamics of neuronal structure and function, including synaptic plasticity.
L1CAM's cytoplasmic expression mainly in CNS, PNS and distal renal tubules.
L1CAM has become a marker for evaluating the malignancy and prognosis of ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, melanoma and other tumors."
